Description: In 1916, led by Robert Longworth, a prominent timber miller, 156 trees were planted in Laurieton’s Bold and Laurie Streets to become the first Memorial Trees to be planted in New South Wales for those servicemen who went to the First World War. Uniquely they were planted in the form of a cross, whereas future plantings would only be in a park or a line of trees in a road or street.
